Chickenfoot Live at Brixton Academy

Saturday night I had the chance to photograph Chickenfoot at Brixton Academy.

For those that don’t know Chickenfoot are a rock band who’s members are Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony (both ex Van Halen), Joe Satriani on guitar and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums.  For this tour Chad Smith has been replaced on drums by Kenny Aronoff as Chad is busy in his day job with RHCP.

As is usual with these gigs it was 3songs no flash and out,  it was quite busy in the pit as there must have been about 20 photographers all jostling for position.

Chickenfoot’s set list was:

  1.

WSBK- Press,Pits and Podiums

PRESS:

My World Superbike weekend kicked off with the media day on Thursday this included a press conference in the morning followed by a photo call on the start/finish line with the 350cc Raleigh that won the 1st ever motorcycle race at Donington Park 80years ago.

Here are some photo from both those events:

Biaggi talks to the media:

Haslam and Biaggi chat:Jonathan Rea:
Tom Sykes:Leon Camier:
After the press conference we headed out on to the grid for a photo shoot with some of the riders and the 350cc Raleigh:

Then their current bikes were wheeled out:Leon Haslam couldn’t resist jumping back on the Raleigh:For the first time in World Superbikes on board camera’s were used, Jonathan Rea was a little concerned about the size of it on the back of his bike: Eugene Laverty and Leon Haslam continue the discussion:On the Thursday afternoon they open the paddock to the public and at the paddock show stage riders are interviewed and then sign autographs for the fans.

Michel Fabrizio’s lack of English brought much amusement to the crowd:

YES!Team BMW:
BMW were a man down at Donington thanks to a testing crash, I’d like to wish James Toseland a speedy recovery as did his team:Yamaha World Supersport riders Chaz Davies and Luca Scassa: Marco Melandri:
Eugene Laverty: PIT LANE:

Having access to pit lane at all times apart from during Superpole and the two Superbike races I had to take advantage and head down there for a session or two and find out exactly why they make you sign that liability waivers, you get CLOSE:Note the scuffed leather’s below,  Fabrizio had been punted into the gravel by a certain Mr Biaggi and returned to the pits minus his bike so off he went to Biaggi’s garage to let him know exactly what he thought of that:He wasn’t very happy!Sylvain Guintoli was a bit banged up but didn’t complain and got on with it:
This is a rare photo.  No not of Marco Melandri but of @supersoph23 now if only I could get one of her in focus but she has ninja like skills of detecting when a camera is pointed in her direction!
Eugene Laverty had a tough weekend here’s hoping he has more luck at Assen:Jakub Smrz qualified on the front row, nothing new there he’s great in Superpole but for once he backed it up in the race finishing on the podium:PODIUMS:

Race 1 Podium Smrz, Melandri, Checa:

Race 2 Podium: Of course there was the usual fun with Champagne:And that’s it for my Donington Park blogs I just want to say thank you to girlracer for the opportunity to the girlracer team who were there at the weekend @weeyin13, @supersoph23, @curlybiker, @mpaines, @motoette thanks also to the enemy @jearle and @sfromley for the great company.  To Stewart(@digitalprintinn) and Sam for their hospitality and to Fran Hollywood ( @cuttingfoam) maker of great looking giant iphones and proud Eugene Laverty supporter and to @Pippamorson for help in setting up the photo with @amylouisedargan and @t0rrs .

British Superbike Showdown

The British Superbike championship heads into it’s final phase with a showdown between the top 6 riders for the title over the next 3 rounds at Croft, Silverstone and Oulton Park.

After the last round at Cadwell Park the top 6 was set and their score increased to 500 and then podium credits that they’d accumulated through the season added. So the table currently looks like this.

Position Name Team Points
1 Ryuichi Kiyonari HM Plant Honda 525
2 Tommy Hill Worx Suzuki 525
3 Joshua Brookes HM Plant Honda 524
4 Michael Rutter Riders Ducati 510
5 Michael Laverty Relentless Suzuki 509
6 Alastair Seeley Relentless Suzuki 505

With a single point separating top 3 it really could go down to the wire. Ryuichi Kiyonari is no stranger to fighting for BSB titles after finishing 2nd behind Gregorio Lavillia in 2005 before taking consecutive titles in 2006 and 2007. He has 4 wins so far this season and 8 other podium finishes and will look to continue that sort of form over the final 3 rounds and clinch a 3rd BSB title.

Ryuichi Kiyonari

After a blistering start to the season Tommy Hill lead the championship by 36 points at one stage before poor results at Mallory Park and Knockhill cut his lead, a first and second at the last round at Cadwell Park saw him earn the podium credits needed to put him level with Kiyonari at the top. After missing almost the entire 2008 season through injury and losing his World Superbike ride halfway through 2009 a British Superbike Title would be a big confidence boost for Hill.

Tommy Hill

Josh Brookes wasn’t the most popular person in the BSB paddock following a few controversial incidents during the 2009 season. This season however with 5 wins to his name he’s proved to be competitive and with only a point between himself, Hill and Kiyonari he’ll be looking to add to that win total and add a British Superbike title to the Australian Superbike and Supersport titles he won in 2005.

Josh Brookes

Rutter, Laverty and Seeley will need some good results and some luck to go their way if their going to overhaul the top 3 for the title. With only one win each they’ll really need to up their game if their going to challenge for the title, Michael Lavery’s win did come at Oulton Park however and with 3 races there during the final round he could be a surprise contender if other results go his way.

Michael Laverty

The showdown kicks off this weekend at Croft with rounds at Silverstone on the 26th of September and Oulton Park on the 10th of November to follow. With it being so close at the top of the table it should be a great finish to the British Superbike season.
